i just almost missed my train because i was taking a personality quiz to find out what fruit I am
so i just finished buffy and this is the last thing you see (ok well 2 seconds later you see just buffy smiling but you get my point). Look at this technique. That’s such a traditional power stance, and something commonly used in tv, particularly in promos and dvd covers and whatnot. And in most tv shows, there’s this weird need to put men in the forefront. Even in other shows i love, like criminal minds, theres a thing where the men are in the front and the intensely powerful and essential, not to mention well-written women are further back. In bones too, even though brenan is at the front theres promotional pictures like this which put men to the front-which i get because booth is important and it still puts brenan in the most power but sweets before angela or camille whose the boss? idk. I’m not saying the bones picture is doing anything wrong, im saying look, compare it to this pose. look at buffy. see how important this show is, how groundbreaking, how relevant and inspiring it was/is for girls (and boys). Look at how powerfully buffy is positioned, look at how willow, a queer character, is at the front with dawn, an incredibly young woman who just KICKED ASS. Xander is as integral as both of them to the show, as is Giles, but theyre further back. this show is completely unafraid to spotlight women-all kinds of women (although some more POC could be used I think about how the representation got better as time went on and we progressed from the 90s) and make women unashamedly central and powerful. I love it so so much when tv does that- uses something so simple but pointed to hammer through its message.
